Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL â The United Hockey League's Western Conference champion Quad City Mallards have added another powerful weapon to their offensive arsenal by re-signing center Jason Goulet to a contract for the upcoming 2003-2004 season. Mallards President/General Manager Howard Cornfield made the announcement today.
Goulet (pronounced "goo-LAY") joined the Mallards in late November when he was assigned by the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose. He gave the Quad City offense an immediate boost, leading the Ducks in December with 11 assists and 15 points. He scored 12 goals with 23 assists for 35 points in 35 regular season games.
But his 2002-03 tenure with Quad City basically ended in late February, with the first of three call-ups to Manitoba. After Feb. 22, Goulet played in just one regular season game and two playoff contests for the Mallards. He saw action in a total of 33 games with the Moose, including ten playoff tilts.
In the 25 games in which Goulet and recently re-signed center Jeff Williams were both in the lineup, the Mallards were nearly unbeatable, posting a 19-2-4 (.840) record, including 2-0 in the playoffs.
Goulet won UHL Rookie of the Year honors with the Fort Wayne Komets in 1999-00, scoring 71 points (28 goals, 43 assists) in 71 games. He led all first-year players in points, goals, shorthanded goals (6), and playoff goals, and tied for first among rookies with 10 power play goals.
He then spent the better part of the next two seasons playing for the Milwaukee Admirals, who shifted from the International Hockey League to the AHL after the 2000-01 season. During 2000-01 and 2001-02 with Milwaukee, Goulet scored 77 points, on 36 goals and 41 assists, in 118 regular season IHL and AHL contests. He led the Admirals with seven playoff goals in 2000-01. Goulet was honored as the Admirals' recipient of the 2001-02 AHL Man of the Year award, given to a player for his outstanding commitment to local community and charitable organizations.
Goulet is a 28-year-old native of Warroad, Minn., the same hometown as Mallards defenseman Andy Fermoyle. The two were high school teammates.
The addition of Goulet brings the Mallards training camp roster to 17 players, including goaltenders Jeff Reynaert and Masahito Haruna, defensemen Andy Fermoyle, Terry Hollinger, Freddy Jobin, Adam Kragthorpe, Tom Menicci, Dylan Mills, and Wade Winkler, and forwards Goulet, Jason Cannon, Bob Crummer, Jon Francisco, Stefan Kostuch, Drew Otten, Jason Sessa, and Jeff Williams.
