October 16, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, Ill. (October 16, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, today announced that forward Jonathan Tremblay has left the team for personal reasons and has been placed on the 45-day inactive list. To fill the resulting vacancy on their active roster the Mallards signed forward Mike Maier, who was with the club in training camp before being released as one of the Flock's final cuts on Thursday.
The Mallards signed Tremblay last month after the 25-year old had spent most of last season with the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins, scoring one goal and picking up 63 penalty minutes in 41 games. Tremblay started last year with the AHL's Quad City Flames. That stint was his second in the Quad Cities- he played for the Mallards in 2005-06.
Maier, 23, rejoins the Mallards after originally signing with the club last month. Maier got his first taste of pro hockey last March with the ECHL's Elmira Jackals- for whom he played one game- immediately after completing his college career at Division III SUNY-Cortland. The 5' 10", 190-pound right wing had eight goals and 24 points in 25 games with the Red Dragons last season. A native of Greece, New York, Maier played at Cortland for two seasons after spending his freshman and sophomore campaigns at Niagara.
