October 16, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, Ill. (October 16, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, today announced that forwards Chris Lipsett and Joel Gasper and defenseman Jason Goulet have been named the team's alternate captains for the 2009-10 season. The trio of veterans will share leadership duties for the Mallards, who open their inaugural IHL campaign tomorrow night in Flint against the Generals.

Lipsett, who is about to start his fourteenth season, is the longest tenured pro on the Mallards' roster. The 35-year old Ottawa native has played 745 games for 13 teams in eight leagues on two continents since completing his college career at Clarkson in 1996. He was a player-assistant coach with the Rapid City Rush of the Central Hockey League last season.

Last season Lipsett counted Goulet among his Rapid City teammates. Lipsett scored 27 goals and totaled 56 points in 62 games with the Rush and has now scored 27 times or more in each of his last four full seasons; he has scored better than 20 goals in 11 of his last 12 full campaigns. Combining both North American and European play, Lipsett has totaled 304 goals and 313 assists for 617 points over the course of his career. Lipsett's impressive resume includes time in the ECHL with Roanoke, Pee Dee, Alaska and Mississippi; in the AHL with Lowell and Kentucky; in the IHL with Houston; overseas with Sheffield in England and Iserlohn, Freiburg EHC and Regensburg EV in Germany; and most recently in the CHL with first Amarillo and then Rapid City.

Lipsett scored 31 goals and recorded 67 points in 112 career games at Clarkson. He helped the Golden Knights to three NCAA tournament berths in his four collegiate seasons as well as an ECAC regular season title and a conference tournament championship.

This is Lipsett's third stint under Mallards Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Frank Anzalone. He skated for the Mallards' bench boss with the ECHL's Roanoke Express for two full seasons in 1996-97 and 1997-98 and, briefly, in 1998-99 with the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters.

Over five professional seasons Goulet, 26, has played 303 games in North America. He has scored ten career goals, collected 41 points and piled up 928 penalty minutes on this side of the Atlantic while suiting up for five ECHL teams (Fresno, Pensacola, Cincinnati, Dayton and Bakersfield), two CHL clubs (Oklahoma City as well as Rapid City) and one UHL squad (Kalamazoo).

Goulet spent the majority of last season with Rapid City after starting the campaign with the Basingstoke Bison of the English Premier Ice Hockey League. The rugged 6' 5", 245-pound blue liner picked up six assists and 165 penalty minutes in 52 games with the Rush last year.

Before turning pro Goulet played parts of four junior seasons in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades (2000-2002) and Prince George Cougars (2002-2004).

The Mallards acquired Gasper from the Flint Generals in exchange for the rights to Tyler Willis last month. The 25-year old spent the bulk of last season- his first full professional campaign- with Flint after starting the year with the Port Huron Icehawks. The Crookston, Minnesota, native totaled 11 goals and 30 points in 67 games.

Gasper got his first taste of pro hockey at the end of the 2008 season when he joined the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs for nine games immediately after completing a four year collegiate career at Robert Morris. In 115 career games as a Colonial the 6' 2", 205-pound Gasper notched 12 goals and 30 points.
