Moline, IL-The Mallards cruised to a 6-2 win in front of a raucous opening night crowd at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Jonathan Gagnon recorded a hat trick and two assists in his first appearance in front of the Quad City crowd. Gagnon's linemate, Jason Deskins, scored a pair including his first shorthanded goal of the season in a game that the Mallards never trailed.

The scoring began in the first when rookie A.J. MacLean scored 9:19 into his pro debut. Just over two minutes later, Deskins gave the Mallards a 2-0 edge with his third marker of the season.

Gagnon recorded his first goal of the night just 20 seconds into the second period. Deskins added a shorthanded tally 5:58 into the period to stake the Mallards to a 4-0 lead. Before the second ended, Kansas City's Jimmy Callahan ended Jeff Reynaert's shutout with his first pro goal.

In the third, Gagnon tallied twice more to record the first Mallards hat trick of 2004-05. Gagnon also racked up a pair of assists in the game. The line of Gagnon, Deskins and Barber combined for 12 points (five goals and seven helpers) in the game.

The Mallards return to the ice on Wednesday in Rockford. Quad City will be looking to avenge a 8-4 loss to the Hogs the last time the teams met. The Mallards return home on Saturday, November 6 to face the Danbury Trashers. It's Magnet Schedule Night presented by U.S. Cellular, Riverbend Home Mortgage and Q 106. It's also soccer night as the Mallards welcome FC Dallas' Bobby Rhine and U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Carla Overbeck. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at The MARK next Saturday.
