
Mallards Fall to Oilers 5-2

MOLINE, Ill. (October 18, 2017) - Devin Williams made 32 saves in his professional debut and five different Tulsa Oilers scored as the Oilers (1-2-0) defeated the host Quad City Mallards (1-2-0) 5-2 Wednesday night.
The Oilers seized the initiative by jumping out to a 2-0 first period lead. Justin Selman- who also had an assist- buried Vladimir Nikiforov's centering pass to open the scoring at 3:49 of the first. Adam Pleskach's tip-in doubled the margin at 14:29.
The Mallards twice narrowed the deficit to a single goal in the second period. A Sam Warning tip-in reduced the gap to 2-1 at 2:12 of the second. Tommy Vanelli reestablished the two-goal Tulsa lead from the slot with what would prove to be the game winning power play goal at 4:20. Justin Kovacs' wrist shot from the high slot reduced the Tulsa advantage to 3-2 at 10:07, but the Mallards would prove unable to complete the comeback.
Conner Bleakley provided a crucial insurance goal for the Oilers when he charged into the goal mouth off the right wing and snapped the puck under the cross bar at 14:52 of the third period. Evan Richardson's empty net goal capped off the the Tulsa victory with one minute and four seconds remaining.
Williams was as his busiest while making 14 saves in the second period.
The Mallards return to action Friday night in Toledo against the Walleye. The Mallards next play on home ice on Friday, October 27 at 7:05 p.m. against the Idaho Steelheads. The October 27 game also brings the return of $2 Dog/$2 Beer Night presented by 97X. Fans can enjoy $2 hot dogs and beers from iWireless Center concession stands during every Friday Mallards home game. In addition, the Mallards have once again this season partnered with Metro to provide transit service between Augustana College and downtown Moline during all Friday home games. As part of Metro's unlimited ride program, Augustana riders can use their Augustana ID as their fare.
Tickets for the October 27 contest and all Mallards regular season home games are now on sale at the TaxSlayer Center box office, Ticketmaster toll free charge-by-phone (1-800-745-3000) and ticketmaster.com. The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
