Moline, IL â The Quad City Mallards stretched their home unbeaten streak to seven straight games (6-0-1) with an 8-4 win over the Rockford IceHogs, Friday at The MARK of the Quad Cities. The Mallards have scored an average of 6.43 goals per game during the streak. They are 4-0-1 overall in their last five games.
Center Jeff Williams scored three goals and added an assist to lead the attack. He has ten goals in the last five games and owns point-scoring streaks of eight games overall and ten games at home, as well as a five-game goal-scoring streak. Defenseman Matt Libby (seven-game point streak, six-game assist streak) had two goals and an assist. Other multi-point games were turned in by defenseman Tom Menicci (goal, two assists) and right wing Jason Sessa (two assists, ten-game home point-scoring streak).
The Mallards (26-14-3) gave up the early lead for the third straight game at the 2:00 mark. They scored two power play goals in a 2:23 span to take a 2-1 lead. Then rookie center Jon Francisco earned a shorthanded tally for a 3-1 lead at intermission. Libby scored another shorthanded goal, giving the Mallards ten this month, just 2:45 into the second period. With the lead cut to 4-2, Libby scored again, this time on a power play, for a 5-2 advantage at the second break. Right wing Hugo Proulx scored his 201st Mallards goal (in regular season play) 20 seconds into the third. Then Williams earned the hat trick with his second and third goals of the game at the 6:07 and 8:30 marks of the period.
The Mallards went 4-for-10 on the power play and held Rockford (17-24-2) to 1-for-6. Quad City opponents are just 3-for-30 with the man advantage over the last five games.
