Mallards' Comeback Bid Falls Short in Brampton

December 1, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Chris Leveille- who scored what proved to be the game winner- and Brandon Marino provided a goal and an assist apiece as the host Brampton Beast (8-6-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before holding off a Quad City Mallard (10-7-1) comeback bid on the way to a 4-3 victory Thursday.

Leveille finished off a give-and-go with David Pacan to give the Beast a 4-2 lead at 13:56 of the third period after the Mallards' Alex Gudbranson- who also picked up an assist- had narrowed the margin to a single goal for the first time since the opening moments on a 2-on-1 rush at 5:44 of the third . The fourth Brampton goal loomed even larger after Jack Nevins' tip-in trimmed the Brampton lead to 4-3 just 49 seconds after Leveille scored. The Mallards, however, could not complete the comeback even after pulling goaltender Adam Vay (23 saves) for an extra attacker in the final minute. Beast nemtinder Zachary Fucale stymied the Mallards until the horn and finished the day with 32 saves, including 27 over the final two periods.

The Mallard revival had started with a Michael Parks solo rush that reduced the Brampton advantage to 3-1 just one minute and 26 seconds into the second period

The Beast jumped on the Mallards early for two goals in one minute and two seconds. Jordan Henry opened the scoring by pouncing on a loose puck in front of the Mallard net at 5:18 of the first period. Marino would then make it 2-0 with a wrist shot from the slot at the 6:20 mark. David Vallorani's blast from the slot widened the lead to three at 10:27.
