Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, Ill. (November 22, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Sunday night came up just short in a shootout, falling 4-3 to the Fort Wayne Komets as P.C. Drouin converted the deciding penalty shot. The Mallards did pick up one point for the shootout set back.

Drouin's was the only successful penalty shot. The veteran buried the puck on the forehand in the second round of the shootout.

The shootout was required to decide a roller coaster contest after a scoreless third period and overtime session followed an opening forty minutes that produced six goals. The Mallards jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to first period goals from Mike Zbriger, whose centering pass was deflected in just 47 seconds into the game, and Juris Stals, who swept a power play goal home from the slot at the 18:28 mark.

The Komets rallied to take a 3-2 second period lead by scoring three times in just over seven minutes as Colin Chaulk assisted on all three goals. The first two Fort Wayne goals came on the power play- P.C. Drouin buried a rebound to make it 2-1 at 2:07 of the second and Guy Dupuis blasted the equalizer in from the blue line at 7:56. Just over a minute after Dupuis tied it, David Hukalo tipped in the equalizer.

The Mallards would bounce back to the tie the game themselves when Chris Lipsett scored from the doorstep at 15:35 of the second but no one else would find the back of the net until Drouin settled the issue in the shootout.

The Mallards are next in action Wednesday evening on home ice at 7:05 p.m. against the Port Huron Icehawks. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive free Mallards Drawstring Backpacks courtesy of Hardee's.

Tickets for Wednesday night's game and all remaining regular season Mallards home games are available at the i wireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
