
Mallards' Coach Bell to Hold Youth Clinics

MOLINE, Ill. (September 7, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced Mallards coach and general manager David Bell will conduct youth hockey clinics in partnership with The River's Edge and Davenport Parks and Recreation on Saturday and Sunday- September 10 and 11- and again on September 17 and 18 at The River's Edge in Davenport.
The first clinic will be held this Saturday for players ages 13 and 14 and will run from 9:45 to 11:00 a.m. The following day Bell will run a clinic for 11- and 12-year olds from 12:00 to 1:15 p.m. On Saturday, September 17, Bell will tutor 9- and 10-year old players from 9:45 to 11:00 a.m. The following afternoon will see Bell work with youngsters ages 5 to 8 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
"I'm looking forward to getting out into the community at the grass roots level and connecting with kids over the course of these clinics," said Bell. "We'll get the hockey season started for them and have some fun at the same time."
Bell will provide refresher instruction and a basic skills tune-up for the upcoming season for camp participants. Each session is limited to 24 participants; sign-up cost is $20 per player. Those interested in taking part can register in person at The River's Edge- which is located at 700 West River Drive in Davenport- or online at www.cityofdavenportiowa.com/parks. Participants must have completed a minimum of one year of organized play in order to take part.
Each clinic participant will receive a free ticket to the Mallards' October 22 season opener against Rapid City as well as a Mallards mini hockey stick and foam finger.
Bell is approaching his first season as Mallards head coach after spending the last seven seasons as an assistant coach in the professional and junior ranks. Before stepping behind the bench, Bell, a native of Wiarton, Ontario enjoyed a seven-year professional playing career during which he scored 29 goals, produced 114 points and accumulated 1,188 penalty minutes while skating in 465 games for nine teams in the American Hockey League, United Hockey League, West Coast Hockey League and ECHL.
The 2011-12 Mallards will see their first game action when they take the ice at the i wireless Center along with the Bloomington Blaze, Evansville IceMen and Missouri Mavericks for the Icebreaker on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16. The Mallards will open their second CHL regular season on home ice on Saturday night, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.
