Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-The United Hockey League announced the results of the second UHL Dispersal Draft of 2006 today. The Mallards acquired the rights to five players including four forwards and a defenseman. Former Trasher forward David Hymovitz was selected in the opening round. In the second round, the Mallards drafted defenseman Sergei Durdin, a former Mallard who spent 2005-06 in Danbury. Forwards Sean Starke, Tim Krueckl and Pierre Luc Leblond were added in the third, fourth and fifth rounds respectively.

Hymovitz was selected after competing against Quad City in the 2006 Colonial Cup Playoffs as a member of the Danbury Trashers. Hymovitz recorded 15 points (10 goals and five assists) in 18 post-season games this spring as Danbury made an appearance in the Colonial Cup Final. During the regular season, Hymovitz netted 32 goals with 46 assists for 78 points in 76 games. The 32-year-old veteran forward has appeared in 735 professional games, including 521 in the American Hockey League and International Hockey League, during a 10-year pro career. He has 529 career points (243 goals and 286 assists). Hymovitz has spent the last two years in the UHL and has 178 points (64 goals and 114 assists) in 156 games during his time in the league.

The Mallards second round pick, Sergei Durdin, made his North American debut with the 2004-05 Mallards. He played 60 games in the Quad Cities before being dealt to Elmira for the season's final 13 games. Last season, Durdin played 67 games on the Danbury blueline. The Riga, Latvia native scored four goals for the Trashers with 20 assists for 24 points.

Sean Starke's selection in the third round marks the second time in nine days that the Montreal native has been selected in an UHL Dispersal Draft. Starke was picked by the now-defunct Adirondack Frostbite in the third round of last week's Dispersal Draft after completing the 2005-06 season as a member of the Roanoke Valley Vipers. Starke split last year between the UHL's Flint Generals and the Roanoke Valley squad. In 64 UHL games, he recorded 23 goals with 23 assists for 46 points. He made his North American debut as a member of the 2004-05 Kalamazoo Wings after spending the previous year in Germany. Starke has 125 career points (61 goals and 64 assists) in 166 pro games.

Tim Krueckl was also a two-time Dispersal Draft selection. Danbury picked him in the fourth round of last week's draft. Krueckl played 12 UHL games with the Kalamazoo Wings and Missouri River Otters in 2005-06. He recorded two goals with three assists for five points last year. During his three-year pro career, Krueckl has played 78 games, all in the UHL. He has 18 career goals with 20 assists for 38 points.

In the draft's final round, Quad City selected Pierre Luc Leblond from the Adirondack Frostbite. Last season, Leblond split his first pro campaign between Adirondack and the AHL's Albany River Rats. In 31 UHL games, Leblond recorded nine points (three goals and six assists) with 165 penalty minutes. During his 27-game American League stint, he tallied two points (a goal and an assist) with 130 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-1, 209-pound native of Levis, Quebec was selected by the National Hockey League's New Jersey Devils in the seventh round (216th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
