Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - 23 Jan 11 Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Andrey Makarov has been heating up between the pipes as of late for the Lewiston MAINEiacs, and that continued on Sunday afternoon. The rookie netminder made 32 saves, helping to lead the MAINEiacs to a 3-1 win in front of 3,960 fans at the Colisee de Rimouski.

In the first period, the MAINEiacs came out with a lot of jump, and came away with two goals to show for it. The scoring started at the 5:06 mark, when Francis Beauvillier slid a pass through the slot to Christophe Lalonde, who finished off his third goal of the season. Then, with 39 seconds remaining, Stefan Fournier tried jamming in a wraparound. Fournier's attempt was blocked but the rebound deflected to Sam Henley, who reached double digits with his tenth of the year.

Lewiston added to the lead in the second period. With a delayed penalty upcoming against the Oceanic, the MAINEiacs kept the pressure on, wanting to create a quality opportunity. Sam Carrier took a wrist shot from the right point that got deflected down by Jess Tanguy. Tanguy essentially played the puck to himself, putting Carl Hozjan out of position, before potting his 18th marker of the season.

The Oceanic got on the board in the third period, as Alex Belzile took a funny bounce off of the boards, before banking a shot in off of Andrey Makarov. However, that is as close as Rimouski got, as the MAINEiacs picked up the 3-1 victory.

Andrey Makarov was spectacular in goal for Lewiston, stopping 32 of the 33 shots that were sent his way. Carl Hozjan suffered the loss for the Oceanic, making 28 saves on 31 shots.

The MAINEiacs will now return home to play seven of their next eight games at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The first game in that stretch takes place on Friday night at 7:00, as Lewiston and Rimouski will meet again.
