
Majors Top \'Dogs in Goal-Scoring Frenzy

Niagara ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors started off the weekend with a trip to the home of the Niagara IceDogs, and earned a 7-4 victory over the home team tonight. As a result, Mississauga's record moves to 34-24-1-2 on the season.
The 1st period was quick to start as Devante Smith-Pelly put the Majors up 1-0 with a marker at 4:58 off of a feed from Cameron Gaunce. Alex Friesen tied things up for Niagara at 8:58 (unassisted). Then, it was all Mississauga the rest of the frame, as Jared Gomes and Jordan Mayer each connected at 10:12 and at 14:01, respectively, to make it 3-1. The assists went to Brett Flemming, Mayer, Gomes and Casey Cizikas. Kaspars Daugavins rounded out the period for the visitors with a tally at 16:41 while Gaunce and Rob Flick got the assists.
Daugavins opened up the scoring for the Majors with a goal coming 2:56, unassisted, into the 2nd period. Drew Schiestel got the IceDogs back on the board shortly after at 4:45 to make it 5-2. Marco Insam and Freddie Hamilton were the helpers. Corey Bureau connected at 9:17 off of passes from David Corrente and Mayer to put the Majors ahead 6-2, heading into intermission.
Niagara's Patrick Lee and Chris DeSousa jumpstarted the play, as each scored at 7:22 (power-play) and at 8:51 in the 3rd period. Insam, Friesen, Mathew Sisca and Lee provided the feeds. However, Kale Kerbashian wired a shot into the IceDogs' net at 18:33 to conclude the game. Jesse Messier and Mike Pelech collectetd the assists.
Chris Carrozzi started in net and made 28 saves for the Majors, while Jeremy Smith and Mark Visentin combined to block 35 shots for the IceDogs. Mississauga went 0 for 3 on the power-play, while Niagara closed out 1 for 4. Daugavins (1st), Flemming (2nd) and Friesen (3rd) were the stars of tonight's game.
Mississauga returns home to host the Belleville Bulls tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. and then the Barrie Colts on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
