Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Sudbury, ON ? The Mississauga St. Michael?s Majors exhibition schedule is about to conclude, and with four games now in the books, there?s only one more to go.
Today (Labour Day) was meant to be a relaxing public holiday for some special ?off? time spent with family and friends, but the Majors were hard at work on the road traveling to Sudbury for an action-packed showdown with the Wolves.
While a number of Majors players were missing from the lineup due to NHL training camps including Cameron Gaunce (Avalanche), Tim Billingsley (Coyotes), Brett Flemming (Capitals), Mike Pelech (Kings) and Chris Carrozzi (Thrashers), the Majors did not disappoint, as the visitors ended up with a feast of a win, 6-4.
As a result, the Majors pre-season record moves to 3-0-1. Mississauga?s Jordan Mayer and Corey Bureau each registered three points this afternoon.
In the 1st period, Mayer and Bureau (power-play) each connected at 4:14 and at 9:19 respectively to give the Majors a 2-0 lead, heading into intermission. Josh McFadden (2 assists) and Casey Cizikas were the helpers.
Mississauga continued to power ahead and was up 5-0 by the end of the 2nd period. Gregg Sutch (on a man-advantage) and Ryan Lopes got the goals at 4:05 and at 5:24, respectively. Mayer, Joseph Cramarossa, Bureau and Dylan DeMelo provided the passes. Bureau scored at 18:45 off of feeds from Cizikas and Lopes to end the stanza.
Then, Sutch put Mississauga on the board again 1:42 into the 3rd period with assists coming from Mayer and Cramarossa. It wasn?t until then that the Wolves bounced back with four goals of their own, from John McFarland, Justin Sefton (power-play), Greg Trichilo and Kyle Tarini. Assists went to Kyle Lekun (2), Dean Howard, Jordan Mills and Steve Landry. But the Majors held on to take the win.
Alexander Laino made 12 saves for Mississauga, while Nick McMullen (36 saves) and Chris Kaye (20 saves) combined for 56 blocked shots for Sudbury.
The Majors final exhibition game will take place in Peterborough when they face off against the Petes this Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
Mississauga?s regular season begins with a visit to the home of the Brampton Battalion on Friday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. Home opener will take place on Friday, October 2 with a tilt against the Battalion at 7:30 p.m. A complete list of the Majors 2009-10 regular season schedule is available at the Majors website (www.stmichaelsmajors.com).
