Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Peterborough, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors saw their 6-game winning streak come to an end this evening as they were soundly beaten 6-2 by the Peterborough Petes. The three power-play goals produced by the Petes ended up being the difference in the game. As a result, the Majors record shifts to 13-12-1-0 on the year.

Casey Cizikas quickly got things started on the right foot for the Majors when he scored 1:55 into the game off of Mike McGurk and Kaspars Daugavins passes. However, Peterborough's Justin Soryal (4:59) and Kenzie Sheppard (at 6:47, on the power-play) quickly countered to give the home team a 2-1 lead.

The Petes kept rolling in the 2nd period as Branislav Rehus scored at 2:20 and 8:50 (power-play) to give them a 4-1 lead. However, Cizikas added another tally at 19:04, this time off of Jesse Messier support, to pull the Majors a little closer.

Unfortunately, Peterborough's Zach Harnden scored at 7:44 and 18:59 (power-play) of the 3rd period to put the game out of reach.

Chris Carrozzi got the start in net for the Majors but was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 16 shots. Anthony Grieco came on to stop 15 of 17 shots. Trevor Cann stopped 30 shots for the Petes.

The Majors power-play was 0 for 4 while Peterborough went 3 for 5. The game's three stars were Peterborough's Rehus (1st), John Armstrong (2nd - 3 assists) and Soryal (3rd).

The Majors return home to host the Barrie Colts tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. They will be joined by cartoon star SpongeBob SquarePants, who'll make an appearance in the Hershey Centre Kidszone from 1-2 p.m.

Majors tickets can be purchased through the Hershey Centre box office two hours prior to the puck drop on game-days or during regular business hours or by logging on to the Majors web site (www.stmichaelsmajors.com).
