Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors earned a deserving 3-1 victory over the Kitchener Rangers this afternoon before 4,800 fans on the second annual "School Day Game" at the Hershey Centre. The win moves Mississauga to 15-4-1-0 on the season; and first place in both the Central Division and the Eastern Conference.
The game began as a defensive battle with both teams effectively killing off penalties and exchanging chances. The Rangers got on the board just over seven minutes into the game when Tyler Randell put in his third of the season. After the intermission the Majors came out stronger and dictated the play for the remainder of the game, scoring three times in the period. Dustin Ekelman tied the game for Mississauga just over nine minutes in. Corey Bureau put the Majors ahead and Blake Parlett added his third of the season; seconds after Bureau's marker.
The Majors showed their defensive abilities and shut down Kitchener in the final period, conceding only four shots and took away any chance the Rangers attempted to produce. JP Anderson turned aside 16 shots and picks up his eighth win of the season. Mavric Parks was much busier for Kitchener making 29 saves and takes the loss; and "Third Star" honours. Dustin Ekelman and Blake Parlett round out the "Three Stars" finishing first and second respectively.
Before the game the Majors and Toronto Scottish Regiment along with CBC's Don Cherry provided the fans with a very special and traditional Remembrance Day ceremony at centre ice. Students in each of the schools involved created wreaths and posters of peace, and played a role in the festivities. Bishop Scalabrini Catholic School students performed O'Canada, and ten students from Bristol Road Middle School recited the famous poem "In Flanders Fields."
The Majors will pack their bags and head north this weekend beginning Friday night in Sudbury and then will meet Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday night.
