Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors treated fans to a convincing 6-1 victory this afternoon at the Hershey Centre against the Eastern Division leaders, the Ottawa 67's. It was just the second meeting of the season between the two OHL heavyweights. The 67's won the first tilt back in October in similar fashion, with a 7-2 victory.
Justin Shugg sparked the Majors early with 2 goals in the first period. His 1st of the game (and 22nd of the season) came just 2:51 into the game. Marc Cantin and Jordan Mayer got the assists. Just a few minutes later, it was Shugg again, scoring at 9:47 to stretch the lead to 2-0. Brett Flemming and Stuart Percy had the assists this time. The Majors would end the period with yet another goal, this time off the stick of Captain Casey Cizikas. Cizikas had his 23rd of the season at 19:13 to make it 3-0. The assists went to newcomers Michael D'Orazio and Chris DeSousa. The Majors outshot Ottawa 19-3 in the first period.
In the second, the Majors continued to dominate in shots but the 67's were able to get on the board. With Cizikas in the penalty box serving a minor penalty for slashing, Cody Ceci put his 2nd goal of the season past JP Anderson to narrow the Majors lead to 3-1. The powerplay goal was assisted by Dalton Smith and Thomas Nesbitt. The Majors dominated in shots on goal once again in the second period, outshooting Ottawa 14-5.
The third period was all Mississauga. The Majors scored several times late in the period, putting an exclamation point on the victory. It started with a Riley Brace goal, assisted by Joe Cramarossa, at 14:16. Brace's 10th of the season made it 4-1 Majors. A minute and a half later, Marc Cantin scored his 6th of the season to make it 5-1 Mississauga. Cizikas and DeSousa had the assists (it was DeSousa's 3rd assist in as many games with the Majors). At 18:50, Shugg completed the hat trick with his 3rd goal of the night and 24th of the season to make it 6-1 Mississauga. Maxim Kitsyn had the assist on the games final goal. The Majors outshot the 67's once again in the third period, 19-10.
Petr Mrazek was impressive for the 67's. Despite allowing 6 goals he made 46 saves on the day and was awarded the third star for his efforts. JP Anderson was impressive as well making 17 saves on 18 shots for the victory. The games other stars were Cizikas (2nd) and Shugg (1st).
