Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors were looking to bounce back after losing back-to-back games for the first time this season, and they did in a big way. Kelly Geoffrey's hat-trick helped fuel the inferno that was the Majors offense in an 8-0 victory over the Ottawa 67's this afternoon at the Hershey Centre. The win improves the Majors to 22-6-3-1 on the season.

Geoffrey opened the scoring just 2:43 into the game and the fans filled the ice with stuffed animals as part of the Majors "Third Annual Teddy Bear Toss." 1013 stuffed animals were tossed and will now be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Peel Region courtesy of Canadian Tire. Ottawa went on a power play but Majors Goaltender Chris Carrozzi made four key saves which seemed to help in the Majors overall assault. Derek Schoenmakers added his first career OHL goal to close the period at 2-0 for Mississauga.

The Majors once again started things early in the second period courtesy of Ryan Lopes. Jordan Mayer added his fourteenth goal of the season to make it 4-0 for St. Mike's. There were numerous chances in the period for Mississauga and if it wasn't for a couple bad bounces the score could have been even larger.

Geoffrey did his damage in the third period scoring two goals in the opening ten minutes and padding the lead to 6-0 for the Majors. The Majors were on cruise control and added two more late goals courtesy of Casey Cizikas and William Wallen, making the final 8-0 for Mississauga.

Chris Carrozzi made 29 saves for the Majors and records his league leader fourth shutout of the season. Carrozzi was also named the games "Second Star." Chris Perugini made 34 saves for Ottawa and takes the loss. Kelly Geoffrey was named the games "First Star" with a four point afternoon. Geoffrey recorded an assist on Lopes' goal in the second. Corey Bureau finished the game with three assists and was named the games "Third Star."

The Majors will have three games next week before the Christmas Holidays. Kyle Neuber and the Sarnia Sting come to town Friday night at 7:30. Mississauga will then head to Erie on Saturday night to play the Otters, and then the Niagara IceDogs come to town Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Majors Holiday Packs are now available and make a great gift this Holiday Season.
