Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors continued their run of success against the Barrie Colts this season by defeating them 6-2 this afternoon. The Majors power-play led the way as it capitalized four times. As a result, the Majors record shifts to 14-12-1-0 on the year.
Cameron Gaunce opened up the scoring for the Majors at 5:29 of the 1st period, with support from Tim Billingsley and Kaspars Daugavins, and added another at 15:19, this time off of a Billingsley pass, to give the Majors a 2-0 lead. However, Barrie's Kyle Clifford grabbed an unassisted marker at 16:46 to cut the lead in half. Fortunately, Matt Caria replied at 19:45 on the power-play, off of Matt McCready and Kris Sparre passes, to regain the Majors two-goal lead.
In the 2nd period, Barrie's Vladimir Nikiforov scored the lone goal, on a penalty shot, at 13:52, to bring the Colts a little closer.
Fortunately, Mississauga controlled the play in the 3rd period. Jesse Messier scored at 11:55, with the lone assist going to Mike Pelech. Then, Rob Kwiet connected off of Piva and Casey Cizikas feeds to add further insurance for the home squad. Finally, Sparre tipped home a Tyler Allen shot at 18:58 to conclude the affair.
Chris Carrozzi made 29 stops for the Majors while Andrew Perugini turned aside 26 shots for the Colts. The Majors power-play was 4 for 10 while Barrie went 0 for 4. The game's three stars were Gaunce (1st), Billingsley (2nd) and Barrie's Brian Lashoff (3rd).
The Majors head out on the road next week. On Wednesday evening, they visit the Belleville Bulls at 7:15 p.m. Then, they travel to Sudbury on Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop. Finally, they challenge the Niagara IceDogs on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
