Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors entertained an audience of 3,815 at the Hershey Centre, as they played host to the Brampton Battalion in the sixth contest in the semi-finals.

It all came down to tonight, as the Majors put their heart into every minute of the game, but were edged 3-2. As a result, the 2008-09 season has come to an end for the Majors, as Brampton takes the series 4-2.

The Battalion got the opening goal when Ken Peroff scored 2:35 into the 1st period off of passes from Andrew Merrett and Brad Albert. But the Majors came back to tie things up with Jared Gomes connecting on a man-advantage at 9:51. Blake Parlett and Tim Billingsley provided the feeds. Then, Brampton went ahead 2-1, with Matt Duchene's tally coming at 15:15 (power-play) while the assists went to Josh Day and Evgeny Grachev.

Mississauga found the equalizer as Gomes produced a shorthanded marker 12:01 into the 2nd period with the sole assist coming from Casey Cizikas. However Matt Kang responded shortly after for the Battalion at 14:57 off of passes from Albert and Thomas Stajan to grab a 3-2 lead heading into intermission.

Things were looking pretty tight in the 3rd period with both teams going head-to-head and neither squad was able to get on the board. The score remained at 3-2 as the minutes winded down and the contest finished with the Battalion taking the win - and closing out the series, as a result.

JP Anderson got the start in net for the Majors and made 24 saves while Thomas McCollum turned aside 22 shots for the Battalion. Mississauga went 1 for 6 on the power-play while Brampton finished 1 for 5 on the night. The stars were McCollum (1st), Kang (2nd) and Gomes (3rd).

The Majors would like to thank all fans, friends and family for their tremendous support in an exciting 2008-09 season. See you again next year!
