Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

St. Catharines, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors were set to take on the Niagara IceDogs at Jack Gatecliff Arena for their third encounter of the 1st round playoff series. Despite the fact Mississauga produced some quality scoring chances throughout the night, they were unfortunately downed 5-0 this evening. As a result, the IceDogs grab hold of a 3-0 lead in the series.

The Majors were working hard, as they outshot the IceDogs 15-9 in the 1st period. However, Chris DeSousa got the only goal at 11:02 (power-play) to give the home squad an early 1-0 lead. The assists went to Stefan Legein and Jordan Foreman.

As the contest continued on in the 2nd period, Majors netminder Chris Carrozzi was challenged with a penalty shot from Foreman, which was blocked, at 19:02. The frame finished up scoreless while the shots on goal were 19-9, this time in favour of the IceDogs.

Then, Foreman opened up the scoring for Niagara 43 seconds into the 3rd period, on another man-advantage, to put the home squad up 2-0. Shortly after, Caputi and Michael Swift connected at 5:34, and then at 7:46 (power-play), while the assists went to Pietrangelo, Legein, Swift and Drew Schiestel. Unfortunately, Pietrangelo got the final goal at 13:00, with help from Schiestel and Andrew Merrett, to put the game away.

Carrozzi's 34 saves for Mississauga were countered by 33 stops by Niagara's Sebastian Dahm. The Majors power-play was 0 for 9 while the IceDogs finished 3 for 11 on the night. The game's three stars were Dahm (1st), Swift (2nd) and Alex Friesen (3 rd).

Game #4 takes place this Tuesday night, when Mississauga and Niagara return to the Hershey Centre for a 7 p.m. puck drop. The first 1,000 fans that wear blue will receive a noisemaker upon entry.

Majors playoff tickets can be purchased through the Hershey Centre box office during regular business hours, two hours prior to the puck drop on weekend game-days or by logging on to the Majors web site.
