Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Belleville, ON - The Majors and the Bulls met in Belleville this evening in game two of their Eastern Conference Quarter Final series. While the Majors had trouble solving Belleville goaltender Malcolm Subban all night, they did do enough to win, leaving with a 1-0 victory and a 2-0 series lead.

The Majors and Bulls each had their share of scoring chances in the first period. It was the Majors who would draw first blood at 7:18 when Justin Shugg scored his second goal of the post season. Shugg stickhandled around the Belleville defender and while it looked like he may pass, he decided to hold onto the puck, and tucked it into the corner of the net to make it 1-0 Majors. Derek Schoenmakers and Michael D'Orazio had the assists. The Majors outshot Belleville 11-9 in the first period.

The Majors continued to get opportunities in the second period, but they could not solve Bulls netminder Malcolm Subban. The Majors held Belleville off the board in the second, despite giving the Bulls several powerplay opportunities. At the end of two, the score remained 1-0. Shots on goal in the second were 10-4 in favour of the Majors.

Belleville put some pressure on the Majors in the third period with some good scoring chances. JP Anderson needed to make several big stops to maintain the one goal lead. Tensions also boiled over in the third period when Derek Schoenmakers and Dylan Corson dropped the gloves halfway through the period. The Bulls pulled Subban late in favour of the extra attacker but they couldn't convert, as the Majors held on for the 1-0 victory. Shots on goal in the third period were tied at 8 apeice.

JP Anderson made 21 saves for the shutout victory and was awarded third star of the game for his efforts. Malcolm Subban made 28 saves on 29 shots in a losing cause and was named second star of the game. Justin Shugg was named the first star.
