Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Fans in attendance on Saturday night got everything they could have asked for, plus more. The Lewiston MAINEiacs lit the lamp six times, dropped the gloves four times, and got a 25-save effort from Andrey Makarov between the pipes. When the final buzzer sounded, the excitement added up to a 6-0 win for the MAINEiacs against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in front of 1,988 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The scoring started midway through the first period. Pierre-Olivier Morin and Sam Henley crashed through the offensive zone, with the two forcing a shot on goal. The first shot was stopped by goaltender Alexandre Veronneau, but the rebound was knocked into the net by Antoine Houde-Caron. A little more than three minutes later, the MAINEiacs added to the lead. Sam Carrier let a wrist shot go from the point, and got a redirect from Kirill Kabanov, who tallied for the seventh time this season.

Two goals were scored in a 38-second span in the second period, but that span will be remembered for more than just the goals. Cole Hawes got the first marker, capitalizing on a loose puck in the crease. Eight seconds after the goal, Bryce Milson and Loic Leduc dropped the gloves. Eight seconds later, Ian Saab and Wes Herrett opted to be dancing partners. Following that, the ensuing face-off saw an immidiate fight, as Antoine Houde-Caron took on Jean-Kristoff Grenier. Just when the crowd couldn't get enough excitement, Etienne Brodeur slammed home a rebound, giving the MAINEiacs a 4-0 lead just 21 seconds after the third tilt. Christophe Lalonde put the exclamation point on the second period, as he and William Carrier exchanged punches.

In the third period, the MAINEiacs found the back of the net twice to finish off their win. Michael Chaput banged the puck in at the side of the net on a feed by Stefan Fournier for the fifth goal of the game, before Francis Beauvillier gave the game a 6-0 final score with a shot from the slot.

Andrey Makarov earned his second shutout of the season, as well as his seventh win in his last eight appearances, making 25 saves for Lewiston. Alexandre Veronneau suffered the loss for Cape Breton, allowing six goals on 30 shots.

The Lewiston MAINEiacs will now head on the road for a 10:35 am start on Tuesday against the Montreal Junior. Lewiston's next home game comes on Friday night at 7:00, when they begin a two-game series against the Quebec Remparts.
