
MAINEiacs acquire Simon Courcelles from Quebec and deal Pier-Luc Champagne to Rouyn-Noranda

Lewiston, ME - Just prior to today's noon trade deadline, the MAINEiacs completed two transactions that fulfilled the MAINEiacs search of an impact 20-year-old player. Simon Courcelles is the newest member of the Lewiston MAINEiacs as he was acquired from the Quebec Remparts for a 2007 3rd round draft pick.
In another deal the MAINEiacs sent forward Pier-Luc Champagne to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for a 3rd round pick in the 2008 QMJHL draft.
Simon Courcelles was the Remparts captain and led them to the Memorial Cup Championship. He will bring grit, leadership, and energy to the MAINEiacs line-up. Courcelles is a 20-year-old forward who stands at 5'8" 197 lbs. and hails from Laval, QC. In 69 games Courcelles scored 12 goals and had 52 assists for 64 points on the season. Simon also compiled 133 penalty minutes, a plus 28 +/-, a 53.4% face-off percentage and 110 big hits. Courcelles was drafted by the Quebec Remparts in 2002 in the first round 7th overall and has played the past 4 seasons with the Remparts. Courcelles will be arriving in Lewiston on Wednesday of this week.
After two season's with the MAINEiacs, 18-year-old Pier-Luc Champagne is headed to Rouyn-Noranda as competition for spots on this year's roster was fierce. In 66 games last season Champagne recorded 4 goals and 16 assists for 20 points. Pier-Luc also compiled 14 penalty minutes, had a minus 8 +/-, and had a 51.4% face-off percentage.
