Maginnis Backstops Outlaws to Win after Moss exits with Injury

After sitting out over two months of the season support the leagues best goaltender, Austin Maginnis was once again called into action after Robby Moss exited Friday's game early with an injury. The Mason City native came into a tied game and shutout the Springfield Jr. Blues who threw everything at the net, and North Iowa got the offense from Bobby Moe and Ross Ring-Jarvi to pick up a 3-1 victory on the road in Springfield to open the three game series.

North Iowa came out flying in the opening minute and :53 seconds into the period the Bryant Skarda found Matt Morin streaking down the middle to give North Iowa the early momentum. Minutes later the Jr Blues had a great chance which was broken up by a hard charging Alex Carlson, sending a pile into Robby Moss and putting him on the ice for a seconds but the Chesterfield, St. Louis native continued through the period, but bad new followed. Springfield was able to tie the game midway through the period as the teams skated to the lockerroom tied at 1. Once in the dressing room Moss found a cut on his side from the colision with Carlson, which ended his night and brought Mason City native Austin Maginnis into the game.

Entering the goal without seeing game action in over two months, the Jr Blues tested the new Outlaws tender with shot after shot but Maginnis made some big saves and got comfortable between the pipes as the period went on. The Outlaws helped their cause later as Bobby Moe took a Trevod Doden rebound and skated around Springfield goalie Phil Cook to give North Iowa a 2-1 lead. Followed by a few more big saves by Maginnis, weathering the storm as the Jr. Blues outshot the Outlaws 22 to 9 in the second period.

In the third period, the Jr Blues continued their charge but North Iowa found ways to fend off every chance the Blues could throw at them. Maginnis made 11 saves in the third period, stopping all 33 he faced through two periods. North Iowa and the Jr Blues continue the three game series on Saturday and Sunday.
