Moncton Magic News Release
The Moncton Magic hosted the Saint John Riptide Sunday afternoon to open up the first round of the playoffs. These two teams have made a show of their local rivalry throughout the season, finishing regulation games with back-to back matchups where they each took one. This may prove to be one of the fiercest battles of the playoffs; the victor will then have a shot at the conference title, playing the winner of the 1v4 Halifax-Charlottetown matchup.
The first quarter went almost as predicted, neither side letting anything by, ending with a low scoring 19-15 lead for the home team. The Magic added a lot of defensive pressure in the 2nd, and with some high percentage shooting made a 10-point run, landing them with a 44-30 lead at half.
Saint John added some pressure of their own in the 3rd and 4th, forcing the Magic into a last minute scramble, to which they responded confidently on both sides of the court, earning the 5-point win.
Moncton enjoyed a high usage rate tonight seeing their entire squad on the board; peaking with Juan Pattillo and Terry Thomas at 18 points each. On top of those points Pattillo had 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 big steals, earning him Player of the Game.
Corey Allmond was next up offensively; he made 15 for the home team; Denzell Taylor led the defensive end with 11 rebounds and 2 massive blocks.
Aly Ahmed, Mareik Isom, and Horace Wormley fought hard to create the bulk of Saint John's offence; they had 21, 19, and 17 points respectively for the Riptide.
The Magic will host again Monday the 9th 7:00pm at the Moncton Coliseum, then travel to Saint John April 12th and 14th, returning home on the 16th if a fifth game is required.
