Rockford IceHogs News Release

Hoffman Estates, Ill.- The trip from downtown Rockford to Hoffman Estates is about one-hour. For whatever reason, when the Rockford IceHogs visit the Chicago Hounds in the Sears Centre, they forget to pack the offense. Despite 50 shots on Hounds goalie Marty Magers, the Hogs fell 3-1 on Saturday night.

Special teams didn't help the Hogs cause either on Saturday as Rockford finished 0-for-6 on the advantage and all three of Chicago's goals were on the power play. The game deciding goal came at 13:24 when center Maris Ziedins redirected a Chris Busby blast past Frederic Cloutier breaking up a 1-1 game. The Hounds added an insurance marker late in the third period from Todd Grant to seal it.

The Hounds grabbed the 1-0 lead early in the first period on the power play. Grant deflected in a point slap-shot from Busby past Cloutier at 1:53. Rockford outshot Chicago 16-7 in the opening frame but failed to solve Magers.

Magers was even better in the second period as the Hogs tagged him with 20 shots and he blocked all of them. Rockford did, however, end its scoring draught in the Sears Centre. Defenseman Matt Gens ripped in his seventh tally of the season past Magers at 3:22. The goal ended a scoreless streak of 138:28 at the Sears Centre.
