Machine lose 2-1

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich: Focused and prepared, the Motorcity Machine returned to Center Ice Arena coming off a defeat to the North Stars the previous evening. The Machine led throughout 55 minutes of the game when a 5 on 3 powerplay and a batted puck sealed the 2-1 victory for the Stars.

Nick Taurence (Trenton, MI) scored for the Machine 12 minutes into the first period from Jared Williams (Chicago, Ill) and newly acquired forward Jon Bobb (Chandler, Az).

The Machine led in shots on goal through out 55 minutes of the game in spite of defending against 7 North Star powerplays including a 5 minute advantage. At the 55 minute mark, the North Stars were given a 5 on 3 advantage as Jon Bobb cleared the puck from the zone on the Machine's penalty kill and as he raced through the neutral zone with the puck, was called for a slash.

Kyle Bonis of Traverse Ctiy scored on the man advantage. Then with 1:30 to play, Marc Thompson swatted in a puck from above the crossbar that the Machine claimed was hit in with his hand. The officials did not see it and awarded Traverse City the win.

Machine goalie Joe Moore (Detroit, MI) was outstanding stopping 23 of 25. TC goalie Brandon Stephenson stopped 21 of 22 shots.

The Machine were 0 for 4 on the powerplay and the North Stars 1 for 7.

The Machine travel to Alpena to take on the Icediggers on Friday February 6, 2009.
