WYANDOTTE, Mich. - David Chaney scored three goals to lead Mahoning Valley a 9-3 win over Motor City on Saturday night at Yack Arena.
Cody Holzworth led the Machine with a power play goal and an assist.
Brad Smith and Jordy Trottier chipped in three assists each for the Phantoms while Cole Schneider and Alex Lippincott each had a goal and two assists.
After the Machine cut the Mahoning Valley lead to 3-2 midway through the second period, the Phantoms scored three straight times, including a goal by Robert Harrison from beyond center ice as time expired on the period.
Jon Bobb scored early in the third period for Motor City, but Mahoning Valley again scored three straight times for the final margin.
The Machine return to action Friday, starting a two-game set with Marquette at 7:10 p.m. at Yack Arena.
