Mississippi Braves News Release
Mobile, AL - The Mississippi Braves lost both ends of a doubleheader on Thursday night, falling 7-4 and 2-0 to the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Game one saw momentum shifts abound, but each time the Braves (10-18) got a run, Mobile (16-12) answered right back with their own. Evan Gattis and Todd Cunningham shined at the plate. Gattis got three hits and was a triple shy of the cycle. His home run was a solo shot to left-center off of Derek Eitel, his first at double-A and his 10th of the season.
Game one was a resumption of Wednesday night's rain-suspended game. When we returned, Mobile led 1-0 with two men on and one out in the second. Archie Gilbert ripped a double off of Chris Masters to score both runners and make it 3-0. Gilbert then scored on a Daniel Kaczrowski sacrifice fly.
The Braves scored in the top of the third inning on an Evan Gattis RBI single. They pulled to within a run in the sixth when two unearned runs scored on an Adam Milligan pinch-hit single, but that's as close as they'd get. Mobile got the two runs back in the bottom of the sixth and scored another in the seventh. Meanwhile the Braves would only get Gattis' home run in the seventh to make it a 7-4 final.
Game two of the doubleheader, a scheduled seven-inning contest, saw the Braves struggle to score off of a set of BayBears relievers. Taylor Sinclair, typically a middle-reliever, started the game, going three hitless innings before giving way to Bryan Henry, who got the win in relief.
Sean Gilmartin started for the Braves, allowing two runs on six hits. He pitched a complete game, but took his fourth loss in six starts.
The Braves and BayBears square off in game four of the series on Thursday at 7:05 PM CT. RHP David Hale (2-2, 4.78) takes the mound against RHP Chase Anderson (1-0, 1.59). Listen live at 103.9 WYAB or online at MississippiBraves.com.
