Toronto Lynx News Release

The Toronto Lynx and the Rochester Rhinos fought to a one-all draw this evening on a humid evening at PAETEC Park in Rochester, NY . The tie raises the Lynx' record to 5-12-5 (20 points) on the season, while Rochester improves to 10-4-8 (38 points) and moves them into a three-way for second with Charleston and Vancouver in the USL First Division table. The match was the third of four meetings between the two rivals this season, and was the second consecutive 1-1 tie between the clubs. Rochester won the first match of the year between the two clubs 2-0 on May 13 at Centennial Park Stadium and lead the season series 1-0-2.

The first half was an even affair with both teams trading chances. Neither team was able to convert, and the teams went to the locker room level at zero. The Rhinos opened the scoring in the 58th minute on Rey Martinez' first goal of the season. The midfielder, who had numerous chances in the first half, fielded a pass from Jonny Steele all alone at the top of the box, and chipped it over a charging Theo Zagar. The Lynx levelled the score late in the second half when Matt Palleschi was brought down in the box by substitute Tenywa Bonseu, and awarded a penalty by referee Ben Jones. Jamie Dodds struck the ball with authority past a diving Scott Vallow to level the score. The goal was Dodds' fifth on the season, giving him the team lead. Neither team was able to score in the final minutes of the game and the game ended in a stalemate.

The Lynx and Rhinos meet on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM on Emergency Services Night at Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto to play the back end of the home-and-home series. Emergency Services organizations from across the GTA will be on-hand with displays and demonstrations throughout the evening, including the Toronto Police, the OPP, the Canadian Red Cross, Toronto EMS and Toronto Public Health and Animal Services. Tickets are still available for the match and can be purchased two hours prior to kick off at the Centennial Park Stadium Box Office.
