Lynx and Impact draw in Montreal

Match Summary: The Toronto Lynx took to the road today for their final meeting of the season with their Canadian rivals, the Montreal Impact. With the Impact off to an undefeated start and 9,289 fans at Claude-Robillard Stadium, the second largest crowd in Impact history, the Lynx played an outstanding road match, earning a 1-1 draw. After a very physical first half that yielded few scoring chances for either team, the game began to open up in the second half. The Lynx struck first off a brilliant passing play which saw Toronto counter attack with Jamie Dodds supplying a cross that was knocked down by Charles Gbeke and finished by Darren Baxter at the 60 minute mark. The lead would be short lived as Sandro Grande's freekick found Lloyd Barker who crossed in the Toronto box ten minutes later. The Lynx defense cleared the cross but it fell to Mauricio Vincello whose volley found the back of the net. The former Lynx defender came back to haunt his old team once again, scoring his second goal of the season, both against Toronto. Overtime was uneventful as neither team was able to generate a good scoring chance with fatigue definitely a factor on a hot day in Montreal. Lynx 'keeper, Bryheem Hancock was outstanding in his first start in 3 matches and preserved the draw with several key saves. Newcomer Rick Titus was solid in the defensive midfield role in his first match with the Lynx as was captain Joe Mattacchione displaying leadership defensively. Lynx Head Coach, Duncan Wilde, was pleased with his team's performance and happy with the result. "We played a good all around game," said Wilde. "You would love to win every game, but the way Montreal is playing right now, we are pleased with the point." The draw moves the Impact's record to 8-0-3, while the Lynx take their first points from Montreal in three meetings this season and now sit at 4-7-1. The Lynx take their show to the west coast next weekend to meet the Vancouver Whitecaps on Friday, June 25th and will be in Syracuse to face the Salty Dogs on Friday, July 2nd. Toronto returns home to take on the Charleston Battery on Thursday, July 8th at 7:30pm.
