Forest City Owls News Release

Martinsville, VA- Jay Lynch needed over 120 pitches to do it, but he led the Martinsville Mustangs to a 1-0 win over the Forest City Owls on Friday night. Lynch threw a complete game, the first 9-inning complete game by a pitcher against the Owls this year. The righty surrendered just two hits and only three runners in scoring position all night. It's the first time Forest City's been shut out in 2012.

Adam Westmoreland did his best to equal Lynch early on. The lefty pitched the first five and one-third innings for the Owls. He worked his way out of a couple of jams early and stranded seven runners over the course of his outing. Hunter Privette pitched the final two and two-thirds for Forest City, without giving up a run.

Martinsville picked up an unearned run early against Westmoreland. Chris Branigan reached on an error leading off the 2nd inning. After a fly out, Derrick Hopkins was hit by a pitch to move Branigan into scoring position. Ryan Bull then came through with a base hit to score Branigan. Westmoreland retired two of the next three batters to end the threat.

The Owls head into the All-Star Break after a home game tomorrow night against the Florence RedWolves. It will be 70's Night at McNair Field complete with all your favorite disco tunes. Wearing of bellbottoms is encouraged. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field.
