Hershey Bears News Release

HERSHEY – The HERSHEY Bears announced today that left wing Eric Bertrand has signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche organization. In keeping with company policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Bertrand, who starred with the Albany River Rats from 1995-99, returns to North America after having spent the 2001-2002 season in Europe. The 6'1", 210 lb. left winger enjoyed his best offensive year in 1998-99, when he netted 34 goals and posted 65 points for Albany. Bertrand has played in 15 career NHL games with the New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers and Montreal Canadiens. He has amassed 237 career AHL points and 999 penalty minutes in 382 games for the River Rats, Philadelphia Phantoms and Quebec Citadelles. In Albany's all-time record book, Bertrand is second in penalty minutes (819) and power play goals (24), tied for third in goals scored (86) and fifth in points (186) and games played (301). The 27-year old native of St. Ephrem, Quebec is entering his eighth professional season.

"Eric is a talented and physical player who will be an important part of our team in 2002-2003," stated Bears' President and General Manager Doug Yingst. "Eric is particularly close with Steve Brule, with whom he played in Albany. During their last season together in Albany when they played on the same line, Eric had 34 goals and Steve netted 32 goals. We are looking forward to both of them recapturing that chemistry with us."
