Evansville BlueCats News Release
The Evansville BlueCats are excited to announce that kicker Ton-Ton Luzayadio has been named UIF Special Teams Player of the Week for Week Ten. Last weekend against the Ohio Valley Greyhounds, Luzayadio had one the finest single game performances by any kicker in league history. He hit all 6 of his field goal attempts and was 3-3 on extra points, making him a perfect 9-9 on his kicking attempts in the game. The 6 field goals in a single game is a new BlueCats and UIF record. He scored an amazing 21 points in the game last week, a single game league record for kickers. He now leads all players in the league with 102 points scored this season entering this Saturday's game against the Bloomington Extreme. He's scored 4 more points than the closest position player and 34 more points than the next closest kicker. He's been busy rewriting the BlueCats and UIF record books this season, shattering several single game, season, and career kicking records.
So far in 2006, he's earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors from the UIF a league-high 3 times (Week Two, Week Four, Week Ten). He's 24-49 (49%) in field goals and 30-36 (83.3%) in extra points. In just over half a season, he already owns the team record field goals in a season (24 - more than double the old record) and career, and he is approaching the total points and PAT (2nd place in season and career list) single season records. In addition to owning the team record for most field goals in a single game, he's also had the second best single game performance (4 FG's) and his 47-yard field goal at Ohio Valley in Week Two is the longest official field goal in team history.
He is the most accurate (49%) and most productive field goal kicker in the league so far this season, dominating both categories. His 24 field goals are ten more than the next closest kicker in 2006.
Two weeks ago against the Fort Wayne Freedom, Luzayadio connected on a dramatic last second 46-yard field goal to win the game as time expired.
Last season, Evansville BlueCats players received UIF Player of the Week honors 8 times. No team in the league has won more Player of the Week awards than the Evansville BlueCats. Luzayadio earned Special Team Player of the Week honors once last season in Week 6 of 2005 while kicking for the Black Hills Red Dogs, coincidentally, that game was in Evansville against the BlueCats.
Defensive end Demoine Adams was also recognized by the UIF this week as the Defensive Player of the Week "Honorable Mention" for his performance against the Greyhounds. This is his first "Honorable Mention" distinction this season. Last week, Adams made 4 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and one forced fumble. Adams leads the team with 6 sacks this season.
Ohio Valley quarterback Matt Kohn and linebacker Brock Dodrill were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week by the league in Week Ten. Kohn, Dodrill, and Luzayadio also shared the weekly Player of the Week honors back in Week Four.
This Saturday, Luzayadio, Adams, and the rest of the Evansville BlueCats will play take on the Bloomington Extreme at Roberts Stadium. This game is sponsored by Acclaim Graphics.
