Lugbauer Breaks M-Braves' Career Home Run Record in Series Opening Win Over Biscuits 5-3

MONTGOMERY, AL - Drew Lugbauer hit his 33rd career home run as a Mississippi Brave, setting the all-time club record in the Mississippi Braves' (28-36) 5-3 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (24-33) on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Montgomery scored first on a two-run home run from Austin Shenton to lead 2-0 after one inning.

In the second, Lugbauer slugged a solo homer to the scoreboard in left center field to set the record for career home runs as a Mississippi Brave. His 33rd home run passed Travis Demeritte and Connor Lien who he tied with a home run in Rocket City on June 9. Lugbauer leads the Southern League with 15 home runs this season.

Lugbauer's home run made it 2-1. Later in the second, Andrew Moritz lined a two-run single into right field to give the M-Braves a 3-2 lead.

The Biscuits tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth.

After Cody Milligan reached on an error, Justin Dean roped a double off the chalk in left field for an RBI double. He later scored on a wild pitch to give the M-Braves a 5-3 lead.

In his Double-A debut, Milligan went 1-for-4 with a base hit in the second. He stole a base in the fourth. Atlanta promoted Milligan from High-A Rome today.

RHP Tanner Gordon got his fourth win of the season with five innings, allowing three runs off five hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

The M-Braves bullpen carried the last four innings.

RHP AJ Puckett retired six of seven in two shutout innings, RHP Odalvi Javier tossed a scoreless eighth and LHP Jake Higginbotham picked up his first save by striking out the side in the ninth to win 5-3.

The second game of the series is on Wednesday at Riverwalk Stadium. LHP Jared Shuster (4-6, 3.63) makes the start for Mississippi against RHP Jayden Murray (3-2, 3.22) for Montgomery. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting at 6:20 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
