FC Cincinnati News Release
FC Cincinnati midfielder Luciano Acosta has been named MLS Player of the Month for July 2023, the league announced today. The monthly award, voted upon by a panel of select national media members, is Acosta's third of his career and first since June 2022.
Acosta starred for the Orange in Blue in a shortened month of July of MLS play, scoring three goals and adding four assists in just four matches. The Argentine attacking midfielder continues adding to an MVP-caliber season in which Acosta has 12 goals, a career high, and eight assists.
The midfielder has now scored in five of his last eight league matches and, with his goal against Nashville SC on Saturday, moves into a tie for second with LAFC's Dénis Bouanga in the MLS Golden Boot Race. Acosta's eight assists are good for the sixth-best total in the league and trail league leader, Carles Gil, by four.
Acosta returns to Cincinnati for the inaugural Leagues Cup campaign after captaining the 2023 MLS All-Stars against Arsenal FC in Washington D.C. on Tuesday night. It's Acosta's second consecutive All-Star honor. He started and played 45 minutes in the All-Star game against Arsenal FC, creating what may have been the best chance for the squad in the fourth minute.
FC Cincinnati will begin play in the first edition of Leagues Cup on Sunday, July 23 when the Orange and Blue take on Sporting Kansas City at TQL Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the match will stream exclusively on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Fans can also listen to the match locally on ESPN 1530.
