Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage hockey team was defeated 5-2 tonight at the Broomfield Event Center in game one of a two-game series against the Lubbock Cotton Kings. A dominating first period by the visiting Cotton Kings proved to be too much.

The Lubbock Cotton Kings came out to a quick start scoring three goals in their first five shots on net. Former Rage player Anders Strome jump started the scoring for Lubbock just 19 seconds into the game after skating in the zone and single-handedly putting the puck past Rage goaltender Trevor Cunning. Lubbock's Philippe Lacasse added a goal at 5:48.

Rocky Mountain's Nathan Rosychuk got the Rage on the scoreboard at 7:18 with the team's second shot on goal, cutting Lubbock's lead 2-1. Matic Kralj and Dorian Anneck were credited with assists. But the Cotton Kings answered back just 34 seconds later with a powerplay goal by Simon Watson.

Rocky Mountain traded out goaltenders at 7:52 in the first period putting in David Guerrera.

Lubbock left winger Jimmy Callahan added a goal late in the period to extend the Cotton Kings lead 4-1. It would be the last goal allowed by Guerrera in the game who would make 25 of 26 saves by the end of the game.

In the second period, Kralj took a pass from Rosychuk, skated in and beat a Lubbock defender before netting a goal for Rocky Mountain at 18:41. It cut the Cotton Kings lead 4-2, but as it would turn out, the game had already been decided by the end of the first period.

Lubbock's Kyle Nosan added an empty net goal at 19:46 of the third period to secure the 5-2 Cotton Kings win.

The Rage falls to 12-33-5 (29 points) for fourth place in the northwest division and the Cotton Kings improve to 20-25-6 (46 points) tied for fourth place in the southwest division.
