Lubbock Renegades News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: December 19, 2007 - The arenafootball2's (af2) Lubbock Renegades added a local product to the 2008 roster, as the af2 assigned fullback/linebacker Trae Ivory to the club.
"Trae (pronounced Tray) worked out with us last season, so for me, he is a familiar face," said Renegades Head Coach Rodney Blackshear. "Last season, we had Victor Mann at fullback so we did not have a need at the position, but Trae did workout for us in case something was to ever happen to Mann. Now, with Mann in New York (of the AFL), the position is open and Trae has a chance to fill that spot."
Ivory comes to the Renegades with little pro experience, but with a lot of experience within the community. The 6'1" 246-pound fullback/linebacker graduated from Coronado High School in 1999 and has played in area semi-pro leagues. Last season, he agreed to a two-day tryout contract with the Renegades but he was never assigned to the squad. Part of the reason he was unable to grab a spot on the roster last season during his workout was due to the success of Victor Mann, who ironically Ivory's cousin. Ivory played collegiately at Midwestern State University during the 2000 season. In seven games, Ivory rushed for 57 yards on 10 carries and also had a 45-yard touchdown reception for his only college reception and score. He produced six tackles (four solo) and a fumble recovery while playing defense for MSU. At Coronado, Ivory excelled in football and in track and field. He was honored as the District 3-5A Offensive MVP in 1998 with 937 rushing yards, 11.1 average yards per carry and 13 touchdowns. In track and field, he placed sixth in the 1999 Class 5A State Championships triple jump competition.
The addition of Ivory places the Renegades with seven players on the 2008 roster, joining Jerome Braziel, Chad Jackson (WR/DB), Elliot Powell (DB), Ronald Redmond (OL/DL), Moqut Ruffins (OL/DL) and Corey White (DB). Media members looking to interview Blackshear or seeking additional information in regards to Ivory's addition may contact Chris Due at 806-744-5858.
The Renegades are now preparing for the 2008 season and their second in the af2. Season ticket and corporate sponsorship information for the 2008 season is available by contacting the Renegades office at (806) 744-5858. Lubbock kicks off their second season on April 5th in Austin before hosting Oklahoma City for their home opener on April 12th at City Bank Coliseum.
