On the heels of an impressive win against the San Jose Spiders, the Lubbock Hawks of the National Women's Basketball League announce the depature of former Lady Raider Alicia Thompson.
Thompson, one of the first players to sign with the Hawks, notified General Manager Ricky Romero on her intentions to leave the team for personal reasons.
"We are sad to see her go, but we understand that family comes first," said Romero.
Thompson, finished her collegiate career as a Lady Raider with 2,156 points, placing her second on Tech's all-time scoring list. In 1998 she was drafted by the New York Liberty. In May of 2000, Thompson signed with the Indiana Fever, playing 3 seasons with the team and ranked in the WNBA'a top five in shooting during the 2000 season. In 2004, Thompson made the move to Seattle and was a part of the Storm's WNBA Championship team.
Thompson played in one game for the Hawks during the home opener against the Dallas Fury, scoring 4 points, one assist, one block, and grabbing one rebound in 16 minutes of play.
"I apologize to the fans and my teammates, but would like to thank them for all of their support," said Thompson.
