Lowgators Now, Lowgators Then
January 20, 2004 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
Not only is Charleston sitting atop the current NBDL standings, the Lowgators also own the NBDL's best record since play began in November of 2001. As the halfway point of the league's third season draws near, Charleston owns an overall record of 75-50, 11 wins better than the Fayetteville Patriots at 64-63. Rounding out the all-time records are Huntsville at 59-66, Columbus at 59-67, Asheville at 55-68 and Roanoke at 55-69.
PLAYING ON BOTH ENDS
One reason the Charleston Lowgators lead the current NBDL standings is coach Doug Marty's team plays the game on both ends of the floor. The Lowgators currently lead the NBDL in scoring (98.5), offensive rebounding (14.5), three pointers made (67) and three pointers attempted (209) on the offensive end, as well as defensive rebounding (31.2) and steals (9.8) on the other.
GATORADE CALLUP REPORT
Ime Udoka was the third Gatorade Callup of the season when the Charleston forward signed a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers last week. Udoka joins Mikki Moore of Roanoke and Ronald Dupree of Huntsville as Gatorade Callups this season.
A SECOND 10
Former Huntsville Flight forward Ronald DuPree signed a second 10-day contract with the Chicago Bulls Jan. 17. Since joining the Bulls on Jan. 7, DuPree has played in seven games (two starts) and is averaging 26.7 minutes, 10.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
KEEPING UP WITH OTHERS
The holiday weekend was a busy time for former NBDL players on the NBA transactions wire. Former Fayetteville Patriots guard Matt Barnes signed a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Clippers on Jan. 18 and former Asheville Altitude center Paul Grant signed a second 10-day deal with Utah the same day. Former Altitude guard Jeff Trepagnier and former Mobile Reveler Bobby Simmons were placed on the injured lists for Denver and the Clippers, respectively, the same day.
OMAR ON TRACK
Fayetteville guard Omar Cook is on a pace to shatter his NBDL single season assist record. Cook is currently averaging a league-best 9.0 assists per game, more than a whole assist per game better than his record of 7.8 set in the 2001-02.
TWO OVER 20
After failing to have a scorer average over 20 points in the first two seasons, the NBDL's top two leading scorers both average over 20 points per game this season. Asheville forward Desmond Penigar averages 21.5 and Roanoke forward Mikki Moore 20.2
