Huntsville Flight News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Feb. 14, 2002) â Tierre Brown tallied a double-double by notching a team-high 17 points to go along with a NBDL season-best 16 assists in leading the North Charleston Lowgators to a 96-88 victory over the Huntsville Flight here Friday night at the Von Braun Center.
The Lowgators (18-18) snapped a three-game road losing streak as five North Charleston players totaled double-figure scoring. Ime Udoka added 16 points for the visitors, while Sedric Webber and Norm Richardson each poured in 15 and Peter Cornell tallied 12.
"I am very pleased with the effort the team gave tonight," Lowgator coach Doug Marty said. "We really worked as a team. I thought we controlled the tempo for most of the night and that helped us on both ends."
North Charleston also dominated the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Flight 45-32, as the Lowgators also tallied 21 offensive boards.
"It was discouraging tonight," Flight coach Ralph Lewis said. "They are a transition team and we needed to slow them down and make them play half-court basketball. When we can't come up with the defensive rebounds we can't force them to do that. Twenty-one offensive rebounds (for the Lowgators) and we can't have that and win which is why we got beat tonight."
Huntsville (17-19) lost its third straight as they fell two games under .500 for the first time this season.
Bakari Hendrix scored a game-high 22 points in leading the Flight, while Demetric Shaw added 18 and Jermaine Walker 12.
The Flight end a three-game home streak Saturday when they take on Columbus in a 4 pm CT contest. The Lowgators return home Saturday as well when they play host to Mobile in a 7 pm ET game.
