No Lie: Lowgators, Flight Busy

February 14, 2003 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

North Charleston and Huntsville are busy this extended holiday weekend, each playing three games in four days. The Flight and Lowgators begin the weekend with a Valentines' date in Huntsville before closing the four-day span with a second rendezvous Monday at the North Charleston Coliseum. Not wanting to commit to seeing each other exclusively, the Flight hosts Columbus Saturday while the Lowgators entertain Mobile.

On ESPN2

The Lowgators won't be able to get away with two-timing their long-weekend, double-play date partner Huntsville because Saturday's contest against the Mobile Revelers will be televised on a tape-delayed basis by ESPN2 Monday at 3 p.m. ET.

No Lie, Costume Good for Matinee

The saying goes that George Washington could not tell a lie, and word is that the Roanoke Dazzle can't resist a presidential costume. In honor of Presidents Day, the Dazzle is offering free admission for Monday's game against league-leading Fayetteville to anyone dressed as former Presidents Washington or Abraham Lincoln. Tip off is set for 4 p.m. ET

The Weekend Schedule

Friday Feb. 14 North Charleston at Huntsville 7:30 p.m. CT
Saturday Feb. 15 Roanoke at Greenville 2:00 p.m. ET
Saturday Feb. 15 Mobile at North Charleston 7:00 p.m. ET
Saturday Feb. 15 Columbus at Huntsville 7:30 p.m. CT
Sunday Feb. 16 Mobile at Fayetteville 3:00 p.m. ET
Monday Feb. 17 Fayetteville at Roanoke 4:00 p.m. ET
Monday Feb. 17 Asheville at Columbus 7:00 p.m. ET
Monday Feb. 17 Huntsville at North Charleston 7:00 p.m. ET

Eight of 10 Showdown

The league-leading Fayetteville Patriots extended their advantage in the standings to two games over Mobile with a victory over the Revelers Thursday night. Fayetteville has won eight of its last 10 games and doesn't play again until Sunday when the Revelers come calling. Mobile has also won eight of its last 10, but is 0-2 against the Patriots this season.

Take Me Home

Home may be where the heart is, but it generally hasn't been where the wins are unless you are North Charleston or Mobile. The Lowgators are 10-4 at the North Charleston Coliseum, while the Revelers are 15-7 at the Mardi Gras Dome. With the entire league a combined 75-62 at home, Coach Doug Marty and Coach Sam Vincent's teams have combined to earn 33-percent of the entire NBDL's home court victories.

Filling the Pool Faster

The NBDL boiler plate states that the league exists to serve as a talent pool for the NBA's 29 teams, and in the league's second season the pool is filling up decidedly faster. When Mike Wilks signed a 10-contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 12, it marked the eighth NBA callup for the NBDL this season. To draw a comparison, the eighth callup in last year's inaugural season didn't happen until April 17 when Omar Cook signed with the Boston Celtics.

Mikki Sizzling

Roanoke's Mikki Moore is making his case as to why he was the first player taken in the 2002 NBDL Draft. The 7-foot forward has averaged 26.0 points and 9.2 rebounds over the last five games and has recorded four consecutive double-doubles. He has also made 26 of his last 40 field goal attempts.

Who's Else is Hot?

Scoring

- North Charleston guard Tierre Brown has averaged 20.6 points over his last five games and has converted 32 of his last 56 field goal attempts (.571).

- Columbus guard Nate Johnson has led the league in scoring virtually all season and shows no signs of slowing by averaging 19.8 points over his last 10 games.

- Asheville's Jeff Trepagnier is averaging 19.7 points over his last 10 games.

- Cedric Henderson of Mobile is averaging 20.5 points over his last four games.

Rebounding

- Rodney Bias of Huntsville is averaging 11.4 rebounds over his last five games.

- Columbus forward Tang Hamilton is averaging 10.4 rebounds over his last five games. Shooting

- Asheville's Brandon Kurtz has converted 22 of his last 33 field goal attempts (.667).

- Huntsville's Lonnie Harrell has hit 10 of his last 15 three-point field goal attempts. Dishing

- Fayetteville's Omar Cook has come off the bench to average 7.7 assists over the last three games. Thievery
