PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Josh Lowe's two-out, two-run single to center in the bottom of the ninth gave the Stone Crabs their first walk-off win of the season Saturday, a 6-5 victory over the Clearwater Threshes at Charlotte Sports Park.
Charlotte (27-31) entered the inning trailing 5-3. After Zac Law began the inning with a walk, Clearwater (27-33) reliever Josh Tols retired the next two batters. After the Threshers brought in Aaron Brown (1-4) with two outs and a runner at first, Robbie Tenerowicz worked out a walk before Tristan Gray singled to right to score a run and make it 5-4. Kevin Padlo then reached on an infield single to load the bases with two outs, before Lowe dropped a single into center to win the game for the Crabs.
Stone Crabs reliever Brandon Koch (2-1) went two innings in relief to get the win, allowing one run while striking out two. Spencer Jones worked 2.1 scoreless innings of relief to keep the game close.
Charlotte erased a four-run deficit to win, by far their largest comeback victory of the season.
The Threshers got the scoring in the second against Charlotte starter Kenny Rosenberg . After a single, Luke Williams homered to deep left to give Clearwater a 2-0 lead. Two pitches later, Gabriel Lino cranked a solo shot to left to make it 3-0. After three straight singles loaded the bases, Austin Listi drove home a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
Still trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the third, David Olmedo-Barrera was hit with a pitch before Lucius Fox singled him to second. After another hit by pitch loaded the bases, Tenerowicz singled to right to score Olmedo-Barrera and make it 4-1. Two batters later, Padlo was plunked with a pitch, forcing home Fox to make it 4-2.
The Stone Crabs added another run on a Lowe bunt single in the fifth before claiming the game with his heroics in the ninth.
