Lowell Slams 'Spos

The Lowell Spinners sent 15 batters to the plate and scored nine unearned runs off of three Vermont errors in the top of the ninth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and defeat the Expos 11-2 in New York-Penn League action Tuesday night at Centennial Field. The Spinners had scored five runs for a 7-2 lead in the inning before they got their first hit. Lowell then got a two-run single from Jason Ramos, an RBI single from Matt Van Der Bosch, RBI double from Robert Evans and a RBI single from Lee Curtis for the 11-2 lead. The teams traded first inning runs with a sacrifice fly from Lowell's Lee Curtis and an RBI single from Vermont's Marvin Lowrance. The Spinners took the lead in the fourth when Drew Pinckney scored from second base on a passed ball, but the Expos tied the game in the eighth with an unearned run scoring on a Luke Montz RBI single. Copper Eddy (1-0) allowed an unearned run on four hits over 4.2 innings of relief to pick up the victory, while Vermont's Hector Cerezo took the loss despite allowing no hits and striking out four in just 1.2 innings of work. Van Der Bosch and Evans both finished with two hits and two runs scored for Lowell (2-3), while Doug Vroman and Ofilio Castro each had two hits and a run for Vermont. The Expos (3-2), who have lost three straight games after two consecutive wins to open the season, begin a three-game series at Hudson Valley on Wednesday. Vermont returns home to Centennial Field on Saturday night to begin a five-game homestand with the Staten Island Yankees.
