Louisville Lightning News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY -The Louisville Lightning got back on the winning track Friday night, easily defeating the Ohio Vortex 8-3 at Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex. The Lightning have now won two of their last three games after struggling in league play to start the season.

The Ohio Vortex made their first trip to Louisville this season, but it was likely a trip they'd like to forget. Louisville rolled out to a 4-0 lead to open the game Friday night at Mockingbird, and the Lightning dominated in nearly every aspect of the game. The hosts fired off 34 shots on goal compared to just 21 for the visitors from Canton, Ohio.

Adam Boyer opened the scoring just under seven minutes in on a beautiful flip pass from Kolby Lacrone to put the Lightning up 1-0. Boyer would assist John Michael Hayden as the Lightning doubled their lead in the first period, then the hosts would build a 4-0 lead before Ohio's Jared Dombrowski would score on a power play to put the Vortex on the board. The two teams went into the break with Louisville leading 4-1.

Ohio's Georgi Petrov would hit the back of the net halfway through the third period to make it a 4-2 game, but Louisville would again dominate and take over. Jerry Chavez would score his second goal of the game to make it 5-2, and Adam Boyer would add two more to give the Louisville native a hat trick en route to the 8-3 victory. After missing last week's game due to injury, Lightning goalkeeper Frank Peabody returned to the lineup and made 15 saves Friday. Boyer led all players with five points on the night, followed by Chad Hagerty with three. Darren Yeagle and Jerry Chavez finished with two, while no Ohio players had more than one goal or one point on the night.

The Lightning now get ready to host the Detroit Waza in league play. The two teams have split both meetings this season, with the Lightning winning at Detroit two weeks ago. Game three between the two teams will take place Friday, February 4th at Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex in Louisville.
