Louisville Lightning News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY -- The Louisville Lightning returned to action Friday night after a difficult loss at Detroit on Sunday. This time, the Lightning had no problems, easily getting past the Illinois Piasa 7-4 at Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex.

After an intense physical game at Detroit, Louisville used a little finesse to take care of business against the Piasa. Charlie Campbell scored twice in just over seven minutes to open the game, and Louisville never looked back. Former D.C. United player Tee Shipalane added a first quarter goal, and Luis Pacheco made it 4-0 with just under two minutes left in the first period.

Elvir Kafedzic kept the visitors in the game, scoring early in the second quarter to make it 4-1. The Piasa kept pressuring before halftime, attempting to cut the Lightning lead. Zach Bauer and Roger Gemoules both tested Lightning goalkeeper Frank Peabody, and Mike Jones would slip one in after a fifth Lightning goal.

Louisville's Scott Stockum would score just before the half to make it a 6-2 contest.

Former Louisville Cardinal Luis Pacheco would add his second goal of the game off an assist from Simon Bird in the third quarter to make it 7-2.

Illinois would continue to battle, looking to cut into the Lightning lead. Piasa star Elvir Kafedzic would chip a fantastic shot over the head of Lightning goalkeeper Frank Peabody early in the fourth period to make it 7-3.

The Lightning would go down a man in the final minutes, and Illinois would capitalize by adding a fourth goal. The Louisville defense would hold steady in the final moments, however, giving the Lightning a 7-4 win over the Illinois Piasa.

Charlie Campbell and Luis Pacheco both finished with two goals on the night for Louisville. Pacheco suffered a groin injury late and is questionable for the next Lightning game.

Louisville has a quick turnaround, traveling to Canton, Ohio Saturday night to face the Ohio Vortex in PASL play.
