LOUISVILLE, KY - The Louisville Fire (8-6) defeated the Quad City Steamwheelers (8-6) in a division battle that now finds the Louisville Fire in the lead of a three-way tie for first place in the Midwest division. The Fire needed a win to gain momentum before they travel to Green Bay on July 20th.
During the first half of the game Louisville and Quad City exchanged scores leaving the Fire trailing by one point at the half. WR Tiger Jones did most of the scoring for Louisville in the first half pulling in three touchdowns for 73 yards. WR Tony "King of the Jungle" Stallings chipped in with an additional six points with 27 seconds remaining. Quad City came back in a short span and scored with time running out ending the half 27-26 Quad City.
During the second half of the game the Fire engulfed the sinking Wheelers with a 1-yard rushing touchdown by FB Demetrius Forney. Two minutes later DL Nick Zeck tackled QB J.J. Raterink in the end-zone resulting in a safety. The Fire finished off the Wheelers in the final seconds of the game allowing the Fire to win by more than six points giving them the tie-breaker for first place of the division.
On July 20, 2007 the Fire travels to Green Bay, WI to take on the Blizzard in another battle to remain in the first place spot with Quad City and the Blizzard. Come support the Fire in the final game of the season on July 28, 2007 as they battle the Tennessee Valley Vipers at 7:00pm in Freedom Hall.
