LouCity Re-Signs All-Leaguer Totsch to Multi-Year Contract
December 2, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
Sean Totsch and Louisville City FC have agreed to a new multi-year contract keeping one of the USL Championship's top defenders in purple, the club announced Friday.
Other terms of the deal, which is pending league and federation approval, were not disclosed.
"Totsch continues to show how important he is to this team both on and off of the field," said head coach Danny Cruz. "We have watched him grow throughout his time here and feel his leadership on the field and in the film room played an important role in the success we had this year. We are excited to have him back and look forward to seeing him help us push toward our ultimate goal of winning a USL Championship title."
Totsch, 31, is a USL Championship All-League First Team selection three seasons running. His latest honor came after numbering 30 appearances and making a major impact on both sides of the ball.
The center back ranked on or near the team lead in a number of defensive categories, such as clearances (51), blocks (11) and tackles (40). He also tallied a career-high nine goals, a record for a USL Championship defender in a single season.
"I'm really happy to be locked in here in Louisville," Totsch said. "I love this team and this city I now call home. I can't wait to get back to Lynn family Stadium and start our pursuit of a third star."
Totsch signed with LouCity just in time to help the club become the first in the league to win back-to-back titles from 2017-2018. The Northern Illinois University product also won a championship in 2015 with the Rochester Rhinos.
Having made his home in Louisville, Totsch lives in the Saint Joseph neighborhood with his wife, Aysia.
Totsch is LouCity's 18th returning player announced to date. Cruz and his staff continue to negotiate toward new contracts for other returners with updates to be provided in due time.
More information on the 2023 USL Championship campaign, such as the schedule, is expected after the new year. For now, season ticket memberships are on sale by visiting LouCity.com/tickets or calling (502) LOU-CITY during regular business hours.
