Los Angeles Stars open the New Year with a 134-118 Win over the Long Beach Jam
January 3, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Los Angeles Aftershock News Release
Long Beach, CA Los Angeles Stars Coach Burrel Lee knew it was coming but when. He has worked for Long Beach Jam President/General Manager Steve Chase for 3 years before taking over the Los Angeles franchise and has been waiting for this day. Steve and Burrel talk almost on a daily basis about the league, their teams and just because they are friends. He told Steve that the day is going to come when he will get a win over Steve. And that day came. "I have to mark this down as the day I coached my team to a win over my former boss" Lee added.
The Los Angeles Stars, coming off a 50pt plus lost to the claws of the Utah Snowbears, has had a lot of time to put that behind them. A lot has changed in the last week. The Stars, in one week, have added an ownership group and beat one of the ABA's top team in their home. Lowell Moore who has taken ownership of the Stars had this to say, "Last week the Stars got Bear-Handled by the Snowbears. During that game the players played their butts off for Burrel. Even being down by 50, they never ever had that 'let's quit' in their eyes. Tonight getting my first win as an owner feels great and I know there are more to come but there is nothing like getting that first one."
Long Beach opened the game with a 30-14 first quarter lead. After that the Stars took charge en route to a 134-118 win. Led by Guards A.J. Diggs (14pts, 15ast & 7stls), Ramel Lloyd (32pts, 9reb & 3stls), Darwin Carter (28pts), William Burr (17pts, 6reb) & Dion Bailey (11pts, 8reb, 3stls). The Stars played most of the game with no players over 6'4" on the court. Not to take anything away from our big men, but when we put all of our guards out there and Coach Archibald countered with 4 Bigs and 1 Guard, my face lit up and my guards took advantage every chance they got. This game was like chess, each coach trying to see what the other was doing. This was by far my team's best played game yet, with many more to come!" Lee said.
Long Beach was lead by Felipe Lopez (30pts), Jelani McCoy (24pts, 9reb), Ramel Curry (22pts, 5ast & 5stls) & Maurice Spillers (14pts and 7reb).
The Jam fell for the third time on their home court and ended up with an 8-4 overall. The Stars move to a 6-5 in the West (Red) Division.
The Los Angeles Stars are back on the court Wednesday & Thursday, January 5th & 7th, 2005 vs. The Bellevue Blackhawks at home at Granada Hills High School, located at 10535 Zelzah Ave, Granada Hills, CA. Both games are at 7:30pm. For more information on the Stars please visit www.lastarsbasketball.com, call 877-782-7710 or email info@lastarsbasketball.com.
