CARSON, CA - Friday, June 12, 2009 - The Los Angeles Sol (Women's Professional Soccer), currently on top of the WPS standings and riding a six-game unbeaten streak into this weekend, has signed forward Julia Schnugg to a developmental contract, the club announced today. Per club and WPS policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The 24-year-old Schnugg, who last played for the California Storm of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL), split her collegiate career between Florida State University and University of California, Berkeley, where she started a combined 61 games and recorded 14 goals and 17 assists for 45 points. At FSU, she earned second-team All-ACC honors and helped her team reach the NCAA Tournament in two consecutive seasons, highlighted by a NCAA College Cup Final Four appearance in 2004.

"Julia is a great player who brings depth to our front line," General Manager Charlie Naimo said. "We welcome her to Los Angeles and to the Sol."

Schnugg joins a Los Angeles Sol team that already features three-time defending FIFA World Player of the Year, Marta, and U.S. National Team midfielder Shannon Box. In addition, the 2003 Parade All-American at Monte Vista High School will be reunited on the pitch with her ex-Pleasanton Rage Soccer Club teammate, Allison Falk.

The Sol travel to play Sky Blue FC (NY/NJ) this Saturday, June 13 at Yurcak Stadium at Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey, before returning home to host Formiga and FC Gold Pride (Bay Area) at The Home Depot Center on Sunday, June 21 at 3 p.m. For a complete season schedule, please visit www.LosAngelesSol.com.
